Snow Make-Up Information

Did you know that you can sign up for e-mail notification about weather closings on the WCPSS home page? Follow this link and look for “Inclement Weather”.

School missed due to snow on Monday-Wednesday, February 1-3 will be made up on the following days: Saturday, February 6,  Saturday, May 1, and Saturday, May 8 . This is for students on Tracks 1, 2, and 4, only. The procedures for Saturday makeups will be as follows:

  • Students arrive at regular time beginning at 8:45 AM and regular instruction begins at 9:05 AM.
  • It will be a 4-hour day for students and buses should run at regular time 8:45 AM – 12:45 PM.
  • We will not serve breakfast or lunch, so students are asked to bring a snack.
  • Students should be in attendance for the entire 1/2 day. Students with tardies and early check-outs will not get credit for the day.

OCE School Notes – January 22, 2010

**This update correctly shows the location of Kindergarten registration as being in the Media Center. It had been incorrectly shown as the multipurpose room in the last update.

Wednesday, February 3, will be Walk to School Wednesday. Students and staff are encouraged to take advantage of this event to add some exercise to their day. The Olive Chapel Student Council will meet on Wednesday, February 3, before school.

Kindergarten registration, for those students who will enter kindergarten in 2010, will be held at Olive Chapel on Thursday, February 4, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, in the media center. Contact the school for more information.

Friday, February 5, will be a spirit day and students and staff are encouraged to wear their spirit wear or school colors of blue and white.

Interim Reports and Progress Updates will go home with all students in grades 1-5, on Tracks 1 and 2, on Friday, February 5.

Full Body Pictures will be taken for students on Tracks 1 and 2, on Tuesday, February 9.

The Fourth and Fifth Grade Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Tuesday, February 16, at 7 pm, in the media center to discuss the book, Cryptid Hunter, by Roland Smith. All interested fourth and fifth grade students and their parents are invited to attend.

Wednesday, February 17, is an Early Release Day, and all students will be dismissed at 12:30, to allow the staff to attend professional development activities.

The Second and Third Grade Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Wednesday, February 17, at 6:30 pm, in the media center. All interested second and third grade students and their parents are invited to attend.

Full Body Pictures for students on Tracks 2 and 4, will be taken on Thursday, February 18.

The Olive Chapel PTA Board will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, February 18, at 1 pm, in the conference room.

The Olive Chapel School Improvement Team will meet on Friday, February 19, at 8:00 am, in the conference room. This committee is made up of representatives from all grade levels and teams and is open to any interested parents.

A Part of Something Big Fundraiser

The PTA is holding a fundraiser called “A Part Of Something Big” where every product you purchase not only supports OCE, but also supports important organizations and programs in the US and abroad. Our school will earn 40% from every product sold which will be used towards school programs like Donna Washington and Almost Recess. OCE School Notes – January 13, 2010

The first grade staff will sponsor a McDonald’s Night on Monday, January 25, from 5 to 8 pm at the McDonald’s Restaurant at the corner of Highway 64 and Lake Pine Drive.

The Kindergarten and First Grade Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Tuesday, January 26, at 6:30 pm. The book, Henry and Mudge In the Sparkle Day, by Cynthia Rylant, will be discussed. Kindergarten and first grade students and their parents are invited to attend.

A General Meeting of the Olive Chapel PTA will be held on Thursday, January 28, at 6:00 pm, in the multi purpose room. Afterwards, the PTA will sponsor a performance by the Silver Trout Artists, which will include storytelling poetry, puppetry and music. For more information about these artists, visit their website at www.silvertrout.org .

The Olive Chapel School Improvement Team will meet on Friday, January 8, at 8:00 am in the media center. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Friday, January 8, will be a school spirit day sponsored by the Student Council. All students and staff are encouraged to wear their school spirit wear or school colors of blue and white.

The Olive Chapel Student Council will sponsor its annual Pennies for Patients campaign to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society from January 11, through January 29. Students and staff are encouraged to donate their change to support this effort.

Olive Chapel will host a Chick-fil-A Night for Tracks 1 and 2, on Thursday, January 14, from 5-8 pm, at the restaurant at Beaver Creek.

The Olive Chapel PTA Board will meet on Thursday, January 21, at 1:00 pm, in the conference room.

Friday, January 22, will be Hawaiian Shirt Day, sponsored by the Olive Chapel Student Council. All students and staff are encouraged to participate in this spirit day.

Magnet Programs Update

For those 5th graders interested in Magnet options for middle school, there are a series of performances and tours scheduled in December and January at the magnet middle schools. Also, there is an evening Information Session scheduled on January 7 at 6:30 pm at Davis Drive Elementary where you can meet representatives from the various schools. OCE School Notes – December 3, 2009

Friday, December 4, will be Spirit Day sponsored by the Student Council. Everyone is encouraged to wear their school spirit wear or school colors of blue and white.

The kindergarten staff will host a McDonald’s Night on Monday, December 7, at the McDonald’s Restaurant at the corner of Highway 64 and Lake Pine Drive in Apex.

Friday, December 11 will be Movie Star/Rock Star Day at Olive Chapel sponsored by the Student Council. Everyone is encouraged to participate in this spirit day.

The Olive Chapel School Improvement Committee meeting that was scheduled for Friday, December 11 has been cancelled. The Committee will meet on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 8:00 am in Media Center. All are welcome to attend.

The Fourth and Fifth Grade Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Tuesday, December 15, at 7:00 pm, in the media center. The book, Frindle , by Andrew Clements, will be discussed. All interested fourth and fifth grade students and their parents are invited to attend.

The Olive Chapel PTA Board will meet on Thursday, December 17, at 1 pm. Everyone is welcome.

Second quarter report cards will go home with all students in grades K-5, on Tracks 2, 3, and 4, on Friday, December 18.

Students and staff on Tracks 1, 2 and 3, will return after the winter holidays, on Monday, January 4, 2010.

The Olive Chapel 4th and 5th Grade Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Tuesday, November 17, at 7:00 PM, in the media center. The book, Ruby Holler, by Sharon Creech, will be discussed. All interested fourth and fifth grade students and their parents are invited to attend and participate in the book discussion.

The Olive Chapel Kindergarten and 1st Grade Parent/Student Book Club will begin meeting on 4th Tuesday of each month beginning November 24th at 6:30 PM in the media center. The book, Henry and Mudge , by Cynthia Rylant, will be discussed. All interested Kindergarten and 1st grade students and their parents are invited to attend and participate in the book discussion and activities.

The Olive Chapel PTA Board will have its November meeting on Thursday, November 19, at 1:00 PM, in the conference room. Everyone is invited to attend.

Interim Reports for students in grades 2-5, on Tracks 3 and 4, will go home with students who are struggling in any academic area, on Friday, November 20.

Class photos, group and yearbook photos, for students on Tracks 1 and 3, will be taken on Friday, November 20.

OCE School Notes – October 30, 2009

Olive Chapel will host a Bedford Falls Book Fair at the school from Tuesday, November 3, through Friday, November 13. The Book Fair will be open for parents and students on Tuesday, November 3, and Tuesday, November 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. 100% of profits from the book fair go to purchase new books for the Olive Chapel school library.

Wednesday, November 4, will be Walk to School Wednesday. All students are encouraged to participate in this opportunity to add some exercise to their day.

Make up pictures for Track 2 and yearbook candid photos, will be taken on Wednesday, November 4. The Olive Chapel Student Council will meet on Wednesday, November 4, from 8:10 to 8:45 am.

Friday, November 6, will be spirit day, sponsored by the Olive Chapel Student Council. All students and staff are encouraged to wear their school colors of blue and white.

The Olive Chapel School Improvement Team will meet at 8:00 am, on Friday, November 6. This meeting is open to any interested parent.

Friday, November 13, will be Sports Day, sponsored by the Olive Chapel Student Council. All students and staff are encouraged to wear something that represents their favorite sports team.

The Olive Chapel Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Tuesday, November 17, at 7 PM, in the media center. All interested fourth and fifth grade students and their parents are invited to attend to discuss the book, Ruby Holler , by Sharon Creech.

The Olive Chapel PTA Board will meet on Thursday, November 19, at 1 PM, in the conference room.
