OCE School Notes – March 25, 2010

Wednesday, April 7, will be Walk to School Wednesday. Students and staff are encouraged to take advantage of the spring weather to add some additional exercise to their day.

The Olive Chapel school store will be open before school on Friday, April 9. That day will be a school spirit day and all students and staff are encouraged to wear their spirit wear or the school colors of blue and white.

The Family Marathon for Tracks 1 and 3, will be held on Tuesday, April 13, at 2:30 PM.

Kindergarten Information Night for parents of students who will enter kindergarten next year at Olive Chapel, will be held on Wednesday, April 14, beginning at 6:00 PM, in the multi purpose room. Parents only, please.

Mark your calendar for the 2010 Olive Chapel Artapalooza on Saturday, April 24, from 5 to 8 PM. Student artwork will be the focal point of the event, which includes gift baskets, raffles, inflatables, the Scrap Exchange, food and lots of fun for the whole family.

A Spring Book Fair will be held at the Barnes and Noble at the corner of Maynard Road and Walnut Street in Cary, on Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 18. The fourth and fifth grades chorus will perform on May 18.

Family Marathon Postponed for Tracks 1 & 3

Due to wet field/ground conditions around campus, the Family Marathon Finale for Tracks 1 & 3 has been postponed until Tuesday, April 13th at 2:30. The Family Marathon for Tracks 2 & 4 will go on as scheduled on Tuesday, March 9.

OCE School Notes – February 18, 2010

Wednesday, March 3, will be a Walk to School Wednesday. The Olive Chapel Student Council will meet on Wednesday, March 3, from 8:10 to 8:45 am.

The Running Mates Marathon for students on Tracks 1 and 3, will be held on Thursday, March 4, at 2:30 PM. Students and parents will participate in the last 1.2 mile walk/run of a 25 mile marathon. The Running Mates Marathon for students on Tracks 2 and 4, will take place on Tuesday, March 9.

Friday, March 5, will be a spirit day sponsored by the Olive Chapel Student Council. Report cards will go home for students on Track 1, in grades 1 – 5, on that day.

Wednesday, March 10, will be an Early Release Day. Students will be dismissed at 1:15 PM, to allow staff to attend professional development training.

Chick-fil-A Night for students on Tracks 3 and 4, will be held on Thursday, March 11, from 5-8 PM, at the restaurant at Beaver Creek in Apex.

Olive Chapel will sponsor a Blood Drive on Thursday, March 18, from 9:30 to 1:30 PM. Call the school if you are interested in donating.

Snow Make-Up Information

Did you know that you can sign up for e-mail notification about weather closings on the WCPSS home page? Follow this link and look for “Inclement Weather”.

School missed due to snow on Monday-Wednesday, February 1-3 will be made up on the following days: Saturday, February 6,  Saturday, May 1, and Saturday, May 8 . This is for students on Tracks 1, 2, and 4, only. The procedures for Saturday makeups will be as follows:

• Students arrive at regular time beginning at 8:45 AM and regular instruction begins at 9:05 AM.
• It will be a 4-hour day for students and buses should run at regular time 8:45 AM – 12:45 PM.
• We will not serve breakfast or lunch, so students are asked to bring a snack.
• Students should be in attendance for the entire 1/2 day. Students with tardies and early check-outs will not get credit for the day.

Interim Reports and Progress Updates will go home with all students in grades 1-5, on Tracks 1 and 2, on Friday, February 5.

The Fourth and Fifth Grade Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Tuesday, February 16, at 7 pm, in the media center to discuss the book, Cryptid Hunter, by Roland Smith. All interested fourth and fifth grade students and their parents are invited to attend.

Wednesday, February 17, is an Early Release Day, and all students will be dismissed at 12:30, to allow the staff to attend professional development activities.

The Second and Third Grade Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Wednesday, February 17, at 6:30 pm, in the media center. All interested second and third grade students and their parents are invited to attend.

Full Body Pictures for students on Tracks 2 and 4, will be taken on Thursday, February 18.

The Olive Chapel PTA Board will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, February 18, at 1 pm, in the conference room.

The Olive Chapel School Improvement Team will meet on Friday, February 19, at 8:00 am, in the conference room. This committee is made up of representatives from all grade levels and teams and is open to any interested parents.

4th-5th Grade Parent/Child Book Club

Reminder: The 4th and 5th Parent/Child Book Club will meet this coming Tuesday, January 19th at 7pm in the Music Room to discuss The Lightning Thief.

A Part of Something Big Fundraiser

The PTA is holding a fundraiser called “A Part Of Something Big” where every product you purchase not only supports OCE, but also supports important organizations and programs in the US and abroad. Our school will earn 40% from every product sold which will be used towards school programs like Donna Washington and Almost Recess. The first grade staff will sponsor a McDonald’s Night on Monday, January 25, from 5 to 8 pm at the McDonald’s Restaurant at the corner of Highway 64 and Lake Pine Drive.

The Kindergarten and First Grade Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Tuesday, January 26, at 6:30 pm. The book, Henry and Mudge In the Sparkle Day, by Cynthia Rylant, will be discussed. Kindergarten and first grade students and their parents are invited to attend.

A General Meeting of the Olive Chapel PTA will be held on Thursday, January 28, at 6:00 pm, in the multi purpose room. Afterwards, the PTA will sponsor a performance by the Silver Trout Artists, which will include storytelling poetry, puppetry and music. The Olive Chapel School Improvement Team will meet on Friday, January 8, at 8:00 am in the media center. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Olive Chapel Student Council will sponsor its annual Pennies for Patients campaign to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society from January 11, through January 29. Students and staff are encouraged to donate their change to support this effort.

Olive Chapel will host a Chick-fil-A Night for Tracks 1 and 2, on Thursday, January 14, from 5-8 pm, at the restaurant at Beaver Creek.

Friday, January 22, will be Hawaiian Shirt Day, sponsored by the Olive Chapel Student Council. All students and staff are encouraged to participate in this spirit day.
